Everything from the fillings to the pastry was delicious! Wish we were able to try more pies. We went with the classic steak and mushroom pie. Very reasonably priced as well.

Place was recommended and it didn't disappoint. Made it from Sydney on our drive through to Eden with 60 min to spare before close on a Sunday and it was still packed with happy customers and a great vibe. … More

A regional escape isn’t complete without a visit to a good country pie shop—and on the South Coast, Hayden’s Pies is the one locals rave about. Nestled just off the Princes “Pieway” (as they pun-tastically call it), this place lives up to its reputation and then some.
The menu is one of the most impressive I’ve seen, with a wide variety of classic and creative options—including some unique game meat pies you won’t find just anywhere.
I opted for one of their classics: the butter chicken with mint yoghurt, alongside two rotating specials—the lamb vindaloo and the crocodile. Each pie was packed with flavour, like eating a big, warm, comforting hug. The fillings were rich and balanced, tasting more like fine dining meals wrapped in golden pastry.
Speaking of pastry—it was absolute perfection. Flaky, buttery, and holding everything together without ever being soggy or heavy.
This place is a must-stop for any pie lover. Humble in presentation, but the flavours are anything but modest.

The only time the staff have a frown is after they’ve dealt with a tourist with a bad attitude.
Follow Anthony’s rule; If you have the time, try something new. Their specials are incredible and always a talking point with the ingredients. Or play it safe if you’re in a rush, their staples are good too.

6th June 2025 - Driving from Sydney to Moruya this was the perfect place to grab a light breakast. The pies were amazing, such a vast array of delicious fillings that are quite unique. I had the lamb, sweet potato and rosemary pie which was amazing and would recommend not putting sauce on it to take away from the flavour. The coffee was a nice brew as well and the service was friendly and quick.
There is an option to dine in or take away.

Best pies in the southern hemisphere, if not the globe. Sausage rolls and sweets are consistently delicious too. Coffee also on offer and sugary classics like Portello can be found in the fridge. Expect large lines on weekends and holiday periods - service is on point so line always moves fast. More

What has happened to Hayden’s Pies?
We ordered 2 pies and a lamb halloumi sausage roll.
Both the pies and the sausage roll were dry to the point we didn’t even eat more than half of it. The pies were lacking moisture and gravy. The beef was dried out like it was cooked too long.
The sausage roll lamb was undercooked and the filling to pastry ratio was bad - see photo. The meat was actually pink.
We used to rate Hayden’s Pies as the best down the coast but today they were literally not good enough to even finish.
Not sure if new workers or changed practices but very disappointing.
3/5 considering the past great pies but this time they were a 1/5.
We ate on 6/12/25.

Tried Hayden’s Pies and they did not disappoint. The crocodile pie was surprisingly tasty and full of flavour, and the cheeseburger pie was a classic done really well. Great pastry, generous fillings, and something a bit different. Highly recommend stopping by!

I can see why the locals live it! Pie are fresh, hot and very tasty. Great range of fillings to select from, all at very good prices. Coffee/hot beverages were a win. They have a good turn over of customers, depending on the time of day finding a seat might be a hassle. Inside had a super cozy feel to it, with branded merchandise for sale. Outside seating also. I had a steak and kidney pie, I wasn't use to the larger chunks of kidney. Next time I might go with a standard meat / steak and pepper.

Been coming down to this joint for the last 20 years. Took my Swedish friends here it’s their first time visiting the country and I thought why not take them to Hayados so they can’t taste real pies. I got the roast chicken and they both opted for the vegetarian options which I thought was a bit suss but anyway they loved it and said it was better than any meal they ever ate in Sweden.

A trip to the Shoalhaven wouldn’t be complete without a quick stop in at Hayden's Pies in Ulladulla. It ain’t the most picturesque of pie shops, but stuffing your pie-hole should be about good crusts and flavoursome fillings. Across the board, the pie crusts here are solid. They’re buttery and flaky with enough structural integrity to eat one-handed while cruising down the Princes Highway. Or you could join the queue of tradies and rugged up surfers and eat inside on cushioned banquets, or outside on slightly chilly wooden benches.
Owner Hayden Bridger is a solid cook with his own achievable and useful cookbook: Home Cooking with Hayden ($40). His pie range has all the classics, plus a good range of curries, like butter chicken ($7.90). Game pies are another speciality here, with kangaroo and beetroot ($8.90) topped with a flaky Skippy, eating particularly well. A chalkboard trailer on the highway will let you know the daily special. For us it was chicken, asparagus and Gorgonzola ($8.20) topped with a pastry star: delicious!
You can also buy pies cold to eat at home by ordering ahead on the app. and checking out the website or bags for reheating instructions. We left with one cold combination I’ve never had before—lamb, sweet potato and green olive ($8.50)—plus a favourite from last time, chicken breast, bacon, spring onion and cheese ($7.90). And if you don’t get your fill of pie, there are some classic sweet treats, like golden ANZAC biscuits ($3.80) that swing more toward crunchy than chewy.
